The two Governments committed to continuing to develop their relations comprehensively, including continued cooperation in education in general and in vocational education and training (TVET) in particular.
In the Joint Statement on the Elevation of Relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Viet Nam and Australia, the two sides committed to working together to support Viet Nam's human resource development and to seek opportunities to strengthen education and training cooperation through dialogue, cooperation mechanisms and institutional linkages; to cooperate in supporting a just energy transition in Viet Nam that balances economic growth with the goal of net-zero emissions by stimulating increased private-sector finance and investment in Viet Nam's mitigation and adaptation efforts, developing high-quality human resources and strengthening governance. The two sides committed to cooperating to support skills formation, including by supporting Viet Nam to develop national frameworks and policies that encourage industry engagement and build an effective vocational education and training system. The two sides also encouraged cooperation between Australian and Vietnamese vocational education and training institutions and with the Vietnamese private sector.
In promoting economic engagement, the two sides recognised the need to build sustainable supply chains and to diversify trade in order to strengthen economic resilience. With regard to building supply chains and supporting the development of Viet Nam's human resources in logistics, since 2016 the Australian Government, through the Australia – Viet Nam Human Resource Development Programme, has been implementing the project "Promoting Logistics Industry Engagement in Vocational Education and Training in Viet Nam", which supports the improvement of industry-led vocational training policies to equip learners with the work competences needed in logistics and related fields.
Australia's support for Viet Nam is based on the strong demand for human resources in logistics and on the Vietnamese Government's goal of raising labour productivity and national competitiveness. The project has achieved considerable success in strengthening links between schools, the State and enterprises, thereby contributing to related policy support and consultation, and is supporting the development of human resources for logistics in Viet Nam – one of the country's fastest-growing sectors in recent years.
For the 2021–2025 period, the Australian Government, through the Australia – Viet Nam Human Resource Development Programme, has committed to providing the Government of Viet Nam with more than AUD 50 million in aid.
