From 1 January 2025, World Vision International in Viet Nam, in cooperation with the Lien Chieu Area Programme Management Board, will implement an Area Programme in the district over the next 12 years. The new Area Programme will help address issues of child protection and livelihood development. Cooperation between World Vision International in Viet Nam, the Da Nang City People's Committee and the local authorities will ensure effective implementation.
The signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the implementation of child protection and care programmes in Da Nang City by World Vision International.
Mr Doseba Tua Sinay, National Director of World Vision International in Viet Nam, emphasised: "Today marks an important milestone in World Vision International in Viet Nam's lasting partnership with Da Nang, as well as our commitment to improving the lives of the most vulnerable children and communities in Viet Nam. I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of the efforts World Vision International in Viet Nam has made and is making in Da Nang, and to share the organisation's future plans for the continued development of this beautiful coastal city."
Vice Chairman of the Lien Chieu District People's Committee, Mr Nguyễn Nhượng, said: "In recent years, Lien Chieu District has achieved certain successes in development. However, alongside these encouraging results, many difficulties and challenges remain, especially in the field of child care and protection. The signing of this Memorandum of Understanding demonstrates the trust and close cooperation between the government and international organisations, based on shared concern for social issues."
World Vision International in Viet Nam and Da Nang have had a close partnership since 1999 through two Area Programmes – the Hoa Vang Area Programme (1999–2015) and the Son Tra Area Programme (2014–present) – and impactful projects such as "Combating Online Child Sexual Abuse" (a five-year project focusing on improving child protection and community education initiatives, with a budget of VND 4.8 billion) and "Combating Child Abuse" (a three-year project focusing on strengthening the capacity of the Government of Viet Nam to address the worst forms of child labour, including online child sexual exploitation and violations of working conditions, with a budget of VND 10.32 billion). In the coming period, in addition to the Area Programme in Lien Chieu, other important projects supporting children with disabilities or protecting marine biodiversity will be implemented, namely "Empowering children with autism or intellectual disabilities" and the "Blue Action Fund".
On behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ms Nguyễn Thúy Anh emphasised: "The support and partnership of World Vision International in Viet Nam have played an important role in improving the well-being of children in the community. The Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs hopes that the Son Tra District People's Committee and the Lien Chieu District People's Committee will work closely and actively with World Vision International in Viet Nam to implement meaningful programmes and projects effectively."
